Aberdeenshire farmer Douglas Gammie is the winner of CROPCO’s Hybrid Wheat competition, launched at the Lamma show in January.
Mr Gammie wins sufficient Hybrid Wheat seed for 5 ha, available for autumn sowing this year.
John Poulton of CROPCO said:
“Interest in Hybrid Wheat is growing rapidly across the UK and although it was the first time we had attended the Lamma show we were very pleased with the response. Hybrid Wheat continues to expand on the continent and in the UK last season growers reported excellent performance on land that seldom produces good yields, while millers have been delighted with samples.”
Douglas Gammie said:
“It was my first time at the show and to win something was a pleasant surprise. I have no direct experience with Hybrid Wheat and will be very interested to see how it performs. We like to grow some earlier varieties and look forward to finding out more about the Hybrid Wheat variety proposed for our farm conditions.”
Douglas Gammie will receive his prize from local Hybrid Wheat distributor, Wallace of Kelso.
